Sugar-Free Vegan Whipped Coffee is a unique and refreshing way to drink your morning coffee. It's completely plant-based and sugar-free!
So I finally got on the whipped coffee train. And I have to admit, I really like it!
I was skeptical at first. It seemed like a lot of work to make whipped coffee in the morning when I could just press a button for my drip coffee.
AND all the recipes I saw had so much sugar in them! One recipe called for a whole TABLESPOON of sugar for each serving. That's sooo much sugar. I knew it would be way too sweet for my taste. And I knew that I didn't want to put so much raw sugar in my body.
I tried making whipped coffee without any sugar. But even for someone like me, who drinks coffee black, there was not enough sweetness. Something about plain espresso powder doesn't taste very pleasant.
So I started thinking about a way that I could make whipped coffee that tastes good and sweet but isn't filled with refined sugar.
My go-to natural sweetener is dates. I use date sugar and date syrup in most of my recipes.
Date sugar doesn't dissolve like refined sugar does (because date sugar is just ground up dried dates!!) so I decided that date syrup would be the best option. That way it would mix easily into the whipped part and not leave a super grainy texture.
Turns out that just a little bit of date syrup makes all the difference. It took the unsweetened whipped coffee from being bitter and unpleasant to just sweet enough to enjoy without feeling like I'm eating dessert for breakfast.
And honestly, don't even worry about the extra time it takes to whip up this coffee (pun intended). It's totally worth the extra effort for an incredible texture and taste.
Coffee. Most recipes I've seen call for instant coffee, but I used instant espresso powder instead. I love the extra depth of flavor it provides! It is seriously so much better than any instant coffee you could buy.
Water. You'll also need hot water, to activate the espresso powder. And date syrup for that extra bit of sweetness.
Milk. The last part of whipped coffee is the base. I used oat milk because I LOVE the flavor. Even the unsweetened version is naturally sweet. You could use any kind of non-dairy milk you want. If you're feeling really fancy you could even make your own like this recipe or this recipe.
Step 1. In a bowl (or the bowl of your food processor) combine the espresso powder, hot water, and date syrup. Whip until the mixture is light and fluffy. The mixture should be able to stay on a spoon when turned upside down.
Step 2. If desired, line two glasses with additional date syrup. Divide the oat milk evenly into the glasses. Dollop the coffee mixture evenly into both glasses. Enjoy!
Lord, thank you for giving us time to discover new things. We are grateful for the unexpected gift. Amen.
